The swimming pool was built between 1943-1945 by the youth foundation in the area. It was named Jónasarlaug (The swimming pool of Jónas) in honour of the Icelandic poet Jónas Hallgrímsson. The school next to the swimming pool was then opened in 1963 and at that time the swimming pool was donated to the school. In 1991 a gymnasium was added to the swiimming pool. In 2008 some improvements were made to the swimming pool.
Camp sites close by.
